Life of a 9-month old

-weighs about 22 lbs. Hefty heavy boy!

-wears some 12 month clothes, but 18 months fit him the best

-LOVES to play Peek-A-Boo and squeals in delight at this game. We can throw a blanket over his head and he sits real still while we go “where’s Austin? Where did he go??” then he knows that is the right time to pull the blanket off his head. Repeat 500 times.

-is in a major Mommy phase. If I’m not around, he is fine (like at school) but if I’m in the room, I’m the one he wants. Evenings consist of him crawling around after me fussing and crying and me trying to do things one-handed.

-Definitely knows the meaning of “mama” and says it all the time.

-climbs the stairs like a pro and wants to do it over and over again

-had his first taste of almond milk and chugged it! Its now a treat he gets almost every day.

-got his first puffy vest

-is started to be interested in books. He’ll now pick up books himself and turn the pages, and will sit still while a story is read to him. This makes my heart happy!

-is the messiest eater ever but loves to feed himself, so we let him. He LOVES food and isn’t picky at all (knock on wood!). His favorites include: broccoli, cauliflower, chicken, ground beef, rice with curry sauce, cheese, apples, and peas.

-I now make all his baby food and he gets to eat pretty much what we eat for dinner, just in tiny pieces.

-Will look for things when we hide them from him (like the remote or our cell phones). If we hide them under a blanket he’ll lift the blanket up and find them.

-Lets go of objects and stands on his own for a few seconds

-Rocks back and forth to music or shakes his hips if he’s standing.

-Likes the mechanics of toys, like how things open and close. The wipes box will entertain him to no end. Pop up the little dispenser flap, then he tries to click it back closed. He also like to just open and close his laptop toy.

-opens and closes cupboards and drawers. Time for the safety locks!

-doesn’t like to be confined at all. He has to limit to how long he can stand being in his carseat, stroller or high chair.

-Likes to stand at the back door and look outside… especially if Daddy is out there to make faces to him!

-Babbles and talks all the time

-Doesn’t nap well during the day, so this makes him very cranky a lot. On weekends we sometimes spend hours trying to get him down for a nap, and during the week if he doesn’t sleep at school during the day he’s Mr. Cranky-Pants all night long and whines continuously. So super fun.

-Rode in his wagon for the first time and actually stayed seated!

-Claps, but does a golf clap. He pats the top of one hand with the other.

-has 8 teeth! He is a teething fool… 4 on top, and 4 on bottom.

-his version of cuddling is crawling up to you if you are sitting on the floor and sticking his head in between your legs. Or he’ll just lay his head against you somewhere. But if your legs are open, that’s where his head is. Kind pervy of him, really. J

-is still an active crazy little tornado. J
