Summer 2020 of course was not like a normal summer. We hit a rough patch in June... long story (more to come on this) but we tried to buy our "dream house" and the whole thing spectacularly fell through and left us feeling pretty bummed.
So I was sitting at work and thought "we need a vacation. Some kind of vacation." It was about a week till 4th of July so I got online and found a rental house in Sunriver and booked it. They don't allow fireworks in Sunriver, but since 2020 wasn't going to be a normal firework-y holiday, I figured this would be the year to spend the 4th in a "quiet place."
So we got to our holiday home Wednesday afternoon and got right to having "fun"
I say "fun" in quotes because right before this picture I got mad at Neal for not helping me unpack the sh** ton of stuff we had to unpack... though to his defense he was trying to call about renting us bikes, and going to get said bikes... which left me with unpacking the car. Anyways, I got over myself when a cocktail was presented.
"Fun" is also quoted because anytime we are someplace new, the boys go beserk. They also know Sunriver means swimming and we couldn't do that in 2020, so the hot tub cooled down was the best they got.. and they (shocker) and went beserk and a jet ended up breaking.. and Neal somehow laughed in between getting mad at the kids.
Thursday we had a relaxed day.. played around the house and such. For lunch we had a soda "tasting." When we got groceries at the Sunriver market I grabbed some good sodas in different flavors. The boys loved the fancy glasses I found in the cupboard, and I pretended to be connoisseur as I poured each flavor. The boys thought it was fun and the very favorite flavor of the day was the Black Cherry soda.
Thursday we also tried out the rental bikes!! This was the first time we rode bikes in Sunriver and for the most part it went well. There are a few hilly areas that Owen and I both struggled on (my bike didn't have gears, so that made it really hard until we got me a different one) but overall, the boys did great and wanted to ride for hours!
On Friday we played golf! Well the boys kind of did, Neal totally did and I drove one of the carts. Austin was my main little man most of the day. He and I are so alike we have a special bond. He drives me crazy, but I'm the only one that can usually calm him down when he's upset because I know exactly how his feelings work.. because they are exactly like mine. You have to have at least one kid that will make sure Mom never goes into a nursing home, and Austin is that kid.
I do love how the boys look when they are in their "golf" clothes.. such handsome little men! We let them drive the cart for a bit in a big field when there were no other golfers around. Austin did an amazing job actually and handled the cart like a pro!

Even with all the craziness and fart jokes and real farts and forts and weapons... I still feel lucky to be a BoyMom and get to be around my handsome dudes.
Little lefty swing!!! And that cute little tushy... he's the cutest most obnoxious little person ever.
We spent a lot of the day driving around picking up lost balls, or balls that went way off the green, or searching for lost balls.
We also spent a lot of the day eating sunflower seeds. SO. MANY. SUNFLOWER. SEEDS.
The cuddlebug kid who loves Daddy just a bit more than Mommy... at least he'll cuddle up for pictures with me though!
Lots of lazy mornings and lazy evenings watching movies... this wasn't a super "busy" vacation and it was perfect that way. Austin really got in to the fancy glasses at the house and drank out of them the whole time we were there.
On Saturday we spent the afternoon at The Village. Neal did a good job being "Grandpa" to the Glynn boys' newest stuffed babies.
Everything at the Village was open for the most part, and masks were required everywhere, so it felt safe. Some of the stores were only letting a few people in at a time so they could social distance, but other than that things felt normal. The boys had a blast on the bumper cars!
Everything was wiped down and sprayed and sanitized after each rider, and there was a few times that they were the only two kids bumping.
The rock wall was also open, and obviously couldn't be sanitized easily so we made sure they had hand sanitizer and washed their hands after. Owen did so good for being JUST big enough to climb!
The trampoline bouncer on the other hand... Owen was just not quite heavy enough to do any real big bouncing. He kind of just dangled a bit.. which was hilarious to watch. Austin did pretty good and even managed a flip or two!
The newest babies... Austin of course saw this stuffed owl and had to have it.. Owen looked around and changed his mind a million times before settling on an eagle. So the birds could be brothers just like them.
Lunchtime beers and Shirley Temples!!! We had to wait quite awhile to get seated, since they had less tables and were trying to seat people outside where they could. The menus were all online that we looked at with our phones. This was our first time eating out since the Pandemic and overall it felt pretty normal.
After lunch we had to get ice cream!! Owen went with Mint Chocolate Chip, Austin got Cookie Dough (mmmmm).... Daddy got Mint Chip too....
And everyone was happy eating their ice cream in the Summer weather....
Except me. Here is my ice cream. Doesn't it look so yummy?? It's a super special flavor of "They Didn't Have Any NonDairy Options So Mommy Missed Out" whomp whomp.
We played Mini Golf too while we were at the Village. We had to wear masks the whole time, but that was fine. Thankfully the boys have never had issues with wearing their masks.
Gotta make sure the babies are going everywhere we were going!!
Including the Village train! There were hardly any kids, so the boys got to ride the train several times in a row... that was a nice 20 min break for Neal and I while they went around and around.
Back home and I thought I'd "relax" in the hot tub with the boys, but they were busy splashing and wearing their life jackets upside down like diapers and being crazy. So I last all of.... about as long as it took to get a picture.
Once we were back from the village we went on a long bide ride all over Sunriver and over the bridge. It was fun to watch the floaters float under us. This was the 4th of July so there were plenty of loud drunken floaters to entertain us. And if that didn't make us laugh, Owen making weird faces because the sun was in his face would get the job done too. :-)
Neal BBQ'd burgers at the house for 4th of July and we watched a movie and enjoyed the quiet holiday. The next day we headed home and it felt like we had taken a little vacation! Just want we needed after a few crappy months of 2020.
