Ok, just a warning here.. this is picture OVERLOAD post. We had a really fun day full of a million photo ops. You can't say I didn't warn you...
After Turkey Day we headed down south to spend the rest of the weekend with my family.
We started our Saturday with a playdate with my long-time friend Jesica. Her son Jett is just a few months younger than Austin and he had a blast playing cars and stealing Jett's sippy cup over and over:
And the fun just continued from here..
I always try and see my bestie Valerie when I'm down in Eugene, and this time we organized a trip to the fire station her husband is stationed at to give a little tour to the kids!
I knew that Austin would love this outing because he LOVES fire trucks, loves his firefighter book, his fire truck toy.. you get the drift.
We had one small incident on the way down to the fire station though which resulted in my kid freaking out over being stuck in his carseat and got so worked up he broke out in a splotchy rash.

Thankfully he fell asleep after this for a bit while we drove and perked up once we were at the fire station.
Our tour began with seeing the ambulance!!!

We tried to do a demonstration of how a person is loaded onto an ambulance with me as the "patient" but as soon as I laid down on the transport board, Austin started getting upset and ripping the straps off of me.
It's funny how even though he is really young, he knew something wasn't "good" about this situation and didn't want me to be any part of it. We tried using Neal too and he had the same reaction.
Then we got to see the FIRE TRUCK!!! (said in Austin's enthusiastically loud voice). The fire station had goody bags for each kid with an awesome hat inside!

It was lunchtime so we got to ride in the fire truck around town for a bit and to get lunch! We had to put Austin's carseat in the truck and I apologized a million times for the crumbs and who-knows-what-else crap that was in the base of it. Hopefully they've seen worse things..

We made a quick stop at Subway to pick up lunch and then headed back to eat and play dress up.

No trip to a fire station would be complete without seeing the fire hose in action! After lunch we went back outside and let the kids pretend to be firefighters!

Then it was time to go around back and fill the truck back up so it was ready for a real emergency. Adam got Neal to work the hydrant.

The look on Austin's face while he watched all of this is just hilarious... It's like "ummmmm what is going on here???"
Cracks me up! But he loved it... loved, loved, loved it! He talked about the FIRE TRUCK!!!! all the way home and was so jazzed up he did not sleep like we had hoped he would.
After we got home, we went out with my family for an early dinner and after ditching Buffalo Wild Wings because of the ridiculously LOUD music going on in there (we couldn't even have a conversation, it was like a dance club) we settled on my Dad's all-time favorite place to eat, Applebee's.

After dinner we went home, put on pj's, built a fire, and just laid low.
It was such a fun Saturday!!!!
