Tricks or Treat!!!
My Mom always says "tricks" instead of "trick" and I find it adorable. :-)
Since Halloween was on a Saturday we had a really full day!
We were up and at 'em fairly late for us.... about 7:30am. I'm telling you.. when you have two kids who are early birds, any sleep on a weekend past 6am is MAGICAL.
Pancakes and eggs/sausage were for breakfast.. on Halloween plates!!!
After a morning of playing, we got Owen down for a fairly early nap. Thankfully, since we had a jam-packed afternoon.
While he napped, I got to watch some Halloween themed Food Network (I'm such a Food Network geek) and the boys played some quiet games. Austin totally cheated at Connect Four. He doesn't get the concept.. he likes to just put in the discs as fast as possible.
Once Owen was up, we got the boys into their costumes and went over to a party at Scott and Allyn's house. They always throw the best parties... decorations, awesome food, fun treats for the kids...
We made a deal with Austin.. on the actual holiday of Halloween, he could have all the treats he wanted. For that one day. Then after that, all candy was going to be monitored a bit more closely. For having a hall pass that day... he really didn't eat that much. He was too busy being wild with his buddy Charles!
Owen and Savanna (who are only 11 days apart!) had fun sitting in the photo booth and talking about their noses.
We got a family shot before we left to head home for Trick or Treating!
Neal's parents came over because they don't get hardly any kids at their house. I made a big pot of pasta, and Neal and Poppa headed out with the boys. It was DUMPING rain. Like heavy, sideways terrible rain.
I love everything about Oregon.. other than that. Growing up I remember wanting to be all these cool things for Halloween... and then trying to figure out how to incorporate sweats, or a coat or a turtleneck with the costume because it was always cold, and usually raining. Sigh.
Well the boys lasted about 30 mins before coming home soaked (even with huge umbrellas!) and ready to stay in for the rest of the night.
Austin had a BLAST answering the door. He kept saying "I want more visitors to come!" and when the bell did ring, he'd open the door, grab the candy bowl and go "oh hi guys" and hand them candy. He was a pro!
We got about 60 kids despite the terrible weather. Neal said that when they were out, cars and vans full of kids were pulling into our neighborhood. A lot of our neighbors decorated the outside of their houses.. we live in one of "those" neighborhoods now. Where all the kids flock to. If we have a year of good weather.. we will easily have over 100 kids.
Austin did pretty good not eating too much candy.. and when we told him no more because it was close to his bedtime, he obliged. So at least no meltdowns! He was a bit hyper though, naturally, and he and Owen had a good time running and wrestling around.
After his shower he said he was "sooooo fweezing!!!" and wanted to put on my robe. He LOVED it and now wants a robe of his own. He is also currently fascinated with dental floss and always asks for some.
Such a character, that one.
That was our Halloween! A lot of rain, a lot of Trick or Treaters and a lot of fun... hopefully next year will be a dry year!
