All good things must come to an end... we had a good summer, and finished it out with some fun! Here is what we were up to the rest of August and through Labor Day...
More Sunday baseball shenanigans! The boys insisted on bringing their umbrellas because it was cloudy and "might rain"
Umbrellas make good oars when you are pretending you are in a boat!
By the 4th inning of the second game of Daddy's double-header... they were over it. I was taking them on wagon rides around the field to keep them entertained.
Owen got a PJ Masks costume for his birthday (and Austin got one as well, Gramma and Gramma Darlene spoil them) and they basically live in these. The best is watching PJ Masks while in costume and acting out what is on TV!
The end of August was a bit rough. Gramma Pete was very sick, and Neal was trying to help out as much as he could... so Austin spent some time with different family and friends. Aunt Patty took him to the zoo one day. This picture cracks me up because his legs look soooo skinny!!!
A day at home with Daddy usually involved fort building or something else with the couch cushions. It's good to be king on a big ol' throne!
I tried my first work from home Wednesday while having Owen with me. If it worked out, it would save me a day of driving back and forth to daycare every week. He gets a lot of movies on Wednesdays!! Really though, he plays a lot too..he is awesome at playing alone when he is actually alone. This is how he was watching a movie and it cracked me up.
He also asks to "nuggle" a lot with me while I work, so I'm learning to type around his sweet little body, while giving his head kisses.
More days at home with Daddy! They kept busy!
So one day, Neal and the boys were at a park and they took Henry with them. Some older kid walked up and asked if he could pet Henry, and if he could pick him up. Neal let him. Austin saw this kid do that, and ever since he has been OBSESSED with the dog, which has made Owen OBSESSED with the dog, because monkey-see monkey-do. It's actually becoming a problem. The dog is starting to try and hide from the boys, he's nipped at them a few times, and the boys still won't leave him alone. Our house is full of "leave the dog alone!!!' moments now, and putting poor Henry up in our room with the door shut so he can have a break. I'm annoyed at that random kid for starting this whole thing.
Monday August 21st was the big solar eclipse! The whole state went nuts in anticipation. I got to work from home that day, and we kept the boys home since they were predicting traffic to be off the charts (it wasn't)... still, we had fun watching it at home. The news was the best to see it since they showed the eclipse at different stages of totality. We only got about 97% totality, so it didn't get super dark.
It got as dark as dusk... like what 8pm would look like on a summer night. It's hard to tell in the pictures though.
It doesn't look dark out, but our street light came on, so it was dark enough for that to happen. My phone injected a lot of light as it took the picture. You can see everything was kind of a weird color though.
The crescent shadows were really cool! This is a reflection of the eclipse! So the light crescent shape is the sun peeking out from behind the moon. These were all over our porch.
We got Austin signed up for Fall soccer! He was so excited to try something new, but even more excited about the shin guards and long socks.
Neal's friend Chino owns a garbage company and Neal took Austin up there one morning to see all the garbage trucks! He was in heaven!!! He got to sit in them, help drive them, and got his own vest and gloves!
See? Obsessed with the dog. You can tell Henry is over the whole thing.
Austin got to spend a whole week at Gramma and Grampa's!! Both boys went down there the weekend that Gramma Pete was home in hospice care, and then we got Owen back and Austin stayed down there because it was Neal's in-service week and he had to go back to work. Austin had a blast, like he usually does!
We lost Gramma Pete to cancer on Friday, August 25th. More to come on that... we still celebrated what would have been her 63rd birthday on August 30th, and Owen conked out on her couch. One last nap on Gramma Pete's couch... it was so sweet.
I took some time off after Gramma Pete passed away to spend time with Neal's family. One day I just got things done at home though. We had been over at Kyle's house so much over the course of a week, that laundry, cleaning, groceries... all were neglected. Owen and I hit up Costco to stock up on lunchbox items for Austin. Kindergarten was starting in just a few days!
Relaxing the in the yard and waiting for Daddy to get home after our morning at Costco! My funny little guy. I love one-on-one time with Owen, he is so funny!
We had a "camp out" in the backyard over Labor Day weekend. We were invited to do things with friends, but after the emotional week of losing Gramma Pete and being around a lot of family, I was feeling drained. I begged to cancel plans and just stay home for the long weekend, and Neal agreed. And it was the best thing for us.
The boys loved our campout! They settled down and went to sleep better than I thought they would (I was expecting lots of goofing off) and everyone was really cozy in our tent!
Well, that's it for Summer 2017. It was a life changing summer with losing Toni, and Austin ending daycare and moving on to his next stage of childhood.
And now we are on to Fall!
