We survived another month! And it was a doozy- I won't lie.
A lot of tears, several real sleepless nights, a lot of frustration and finally a trip to the doctor to confirm Owen had reflux...the cause of his many unhappy days and nights. Thank goodness for baby acid blocker medicines.. we got to end month 2 with a happy baby!
Growing
-Weighs 11lbs, 9oz (yeah boobs for doing what you should be doing!!)... 27% for weight. He's gained over 5lbs from birth but since he was small to begin with, he's still on the small end of the spectrum.
-Length 23" (44%)...a little stringbean.
-Wears 3 month clothes and is quickly growing out of the footed pajamas and will need to go up in size soon.
Eating
-Nursing well, about every 2.5-3 hours. I call him a baby dragon because sometimes he thrashes around, pulls on me, smacks me with his arms, claws me... whoever said nursing is this relaxing "bonding" moment with their baby obviously never nursed a Glynn baby. It takes two hands and my full concentration to get him latched and keep him there.
-Gets a bottle of breast milk every so often and takes it well. Hopefully this continues and we transition to daycare easily.
-Is not a comfort nurser. If he doesn't want to actually eat, he will not latch on.
-I swear he communicates with me.. one night I had a pumped bottle I was trying to give him and he wouldn't take it, looked at me, and tapped my boob with his hand.. like "this. I want this Mom."
Sleeping
-Once we got him on his reflux medicine his sleeping really turned a corner.. he actually started sleeping!! No more up from 9pm to 6am trying to soothe him!!
-Cat naps during the day... there is sometimes a more solid "nap" in the morning and late afternoon.. but mostly it's little 20-30 minute power naps throughout the day.
-Has slept through the night for about 2 weeks.. as in, 5-7 hour chunks of sleep. Usually he goes to bed between 9-10, wakes between 2-3 to eat and then sleeps until 6. So thankful he's sleeping well! We'll take it while it lasts!!
-Doesn't really like to be held during naps.. prefers to be swaddled and put in his swing in a darkened room with white noise.
| My Grandma, however.. is the baby whisperer and can get him to pass out easily every time!! I want her to move in with us. |
-Is a very light sleeper and wakes at any little movement or noise. Trying to keep Austin quiet during the day is challenging because he's The World's Loudest Kid. "Mom? MOM!!! MOOOOOMMMM!!!! LOOK AT DAT BIG TRUCK RIGHT DERE!!!" ack!!! shhh......
-Is NOT soothed to sleep in the car. In fact, he HATES the car.
Playing
-Makes eye contact with us and tracks movement.
-Is quite taken with the ceiling, lights and shadows and... well, mostly.. the ceiling. What is up there? He probably sees the dust bunnies up there...
-Likes to be talked to and engaged with constantly. He's happiest on the floor if someone is with him, talking to him and touching him.
-Makes the cutest noises and coos... like the real "ah-goo!!!" noises you think babies should make. He's close to giggling, with a monkey-like noise of "ah-ah-ah!!"
-Nicknames so far are Baby Owen, Bo (the "B" and the "O" from Baby Owen put together), Munchkin, Piglet and Sir Dinkamus Squirms-a-lot.
